For students with some prior dance training. Structured practice across adavu sets 2–9, integration with music, and a careful build toward repertoire items like Alarippu, Jathiswaram, and short Sabdams or Kirtanams. Available across Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, and Kuchipudi - the curriculum below reflects the Bharatanatyam track; Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi students follow the equivalent progression in their own repertoire.

Adavus - sets 2 to 9

Tatti-mettu, Sarukkal, Mandi, Kuditta-mettu, Tirmana, Korvai and combinations.

Repertoire - purvaranga items

Alarippu and Jathiswaram, with attention to musical structure and jathi clarity.

Theory & history

Natya Shastra basics, the Margam structure, and the Kalakshetra approach.

Stagecraft

Costuming, jewellery, makeup basics, and stage etiquette for first recitals.

Who is the technique programme for?

The technique programme is for students with at least one year of classical dance training - in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, or Kuchipudi - who want stronger stamina, cleaner movement, and the first repertoire items.

Will I learn full items in the technique programme?

Yes. Students typically learn Alarippu, Jathiswaram, and short Sabdam or Kirtanam items, with attention to musical structure and jathi clarity.

How is progress assessed?

Progress is assessed continuously by the teacher through classroom observation, with one or two short evaluation sessions each year focused on clean execution and musical integration.
