Common questions
Sizing, returns, and shipping.
The most common questions from parents and students. Anything else, message us on WhatsApp - we typically reply within a few hours.
Who curates the Kalpa Arts store?
Every item is selected by Devi Nandana, the founder of Kalpa Arts. The store grew out of repeated questions from parents and students about where to buy the right practice saree, the right ghungroo count, or trustworthy stage jewellery - so we made the answers available in one place.
How do I know which size to order?
Every collection page has a size guide - sarees by wearer height, salangai by age and bell count, jewellery by body-point measurements. Look for the 'Size guide' link beside the size selector on any product. If you're between sizes, round up for sarees, round down for salangai. Anything unclear, message us on WhatsApp and we'll confirm before you order.
Are the sarees pleat-ready?
Practice sarees are pleat-stitched and ready to drape with minimal pinning. Performance sarees can be ordered either pleat-ready or as full uncut yardage if you have your own tailor. Pleat sizing is matched to the wearer's height when you provide it at checkout.
How is salangai ghungroo count decided?
Young beginners typically start with 50 or 75 bells per foot for clean adavu sound without overwhelming the ear. Teens move to 100 bells; adult performers usually wear 150 or 200. We list a recommended count per age band on each product, and you can request a custom count if your guru prefers a specific number.
Is the temple jewellery real gold?
No - it is stage-grade Thanjavur-style imitation jewellery, finished to photograph and stage-read like real temple jewellery while staying light enough to dance in. Real-gold pieces are not stocked. We can refer you to trusted Chennai goldsmiths for arangetram heirloom pieces on request.
Do you ship outside India?
International shipping is currently by request - write to us via WhatsApp or email with your country and the items you would like, and we will share a courier quote (DHL or India Post International). India shipping is free above ₹2,500 and 4–7 business days otherwise.
What is the return policy?
Unworn, unwashed items in original packaging can be returned within 7 days of delivery - full refund minus return courier. Custom-tailored sarees and salangai with custom ghungroo counts are final-sale because they are made or assembled to your specification.
Do you offer discount codes?
First-time shoppers can use code KALPA10 at checkout for 10% off the first order. Current Kalpa Arts students who order jewellery sets for arangetram can request a small handling discount - just mention your batch name in the order notes and we apply it before processing the charge.
